Behavior Intervention Plans
Behavioral Intervention Plans are not unique to autism treatments, but we find that they are quite useful for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The purpose of a BIP is to create steps that teachers or other staff at the child’s school can follow to stop behaviors deemed disruptive or inappropriate. Potential issues can include acting non-responsive or withdrawn, disrupting the class, becoming aggressive, refusing to do classwork, or using inappropriate language.
Behavioral Intervention Plans are created to reward and teach appropriate behaviors while a child is at school, in their home, or out in the community They are designed to prevent the negative behavior from occurring or to stop those behaviors once they have started. Remember that a BIP should be revisited regularly, and any necessary adjustments should be made to address changing or developing behavioral issues.
We will help parents to create Behavioral Intervention Plans that describe any problem behaviors that are known. It will also contain information that can inform teachers and staff about the reasons why these behaviors occur. Finally, the BIP will include different strategies that can be used to address the behavior in question.
Teachers and school staff that are part of a child’s IEP team can also become a valuable source in helping to shape Behavior Intervention Plans for use at school. Keeping parents informed about strategies that prove ineffective will allow us to work towards other solutions. Suggestions from the school faculty or members of the EIP team are always welcome, as they can observe the child in the school setting away from family members.
That feedback can help a child with problems solving or social skills that they may struggle with when interacting with classmates or faculty. Working with school and IEP teams will allow us to also identify who will be responsible for implementing coping strategies. Keep in mind that a child can be responsible for initiating some BIP strategies, such as asking for a break when it is needed.

Research over the last 40+ years has shown the efficacy of ABA Therapy for individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Intake
Our services begin with an intake consultation with a member of our administrative team. This is a time where families are able to discuss primary areas of concern and determine if ABC can meet their needs.

Insurance Eligibility
During this process our team will determine eligibility for services and navigate the insurance process for you. You will be asked to fill out an application, provide proof of medical diagnosis of Autism spectrum disorder, provide a prescription for ABA Therapy services, and provide proof of insurance.

Assessment
The next step is to assess your child’s skill level, which is necessary to guide the development of an individualized Autism treatment plan. The assessment will be conducted by a licensed Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and will include the use of various assessment tools. Typically, assessments are conducted in the home setting. However, arrangements can be made to conduct the assessment in an area that best suits your family’s needs.

Therapy
Through assessment in everyday situations such as home and school, behaviors are targeted and a detailed therapy plan is developed. Throughout the treatment, data is recorded and analyzed in order to show progress of meaningful change and to evaluate, modify, and refine treatment for the most socially significant outcomes.
